The Temporary Advantage Drill (2-on-1 + 1) is a situational exercise that focuses on taking advantage of a brief numerical superiority before the defense recovers.
The drill starts as a 2-on-1 fast break, then quickly transitions into a 2-on-2 as a trailing defender joins the play.
Players must read the defense, make quick decisions, and execute efficiently within the small time window where the advantage exists.
It is excellent for improving transition offense, decision-making, and spatial awareness.

Initial layout and description

Placed 2 attacking players on each side of the center circle. Two defenders in the half court to which they are oriented (forming a tandem).

The attackers begin passing the ball (with no fakes).
The defender closest to the center circle you will have to measure the time and go to cut the pass.

The initiative is a defender, so that the inside of the difficulty, you will have more opportunities to measure the y-intercept. If you cut the pass, you will have a situation of 1×0. In case you do not get to cut the pass, the attackers will begin to attack, and that the defender will have to tread the line of half-court and recover. This produces a situation 2c1+1.

Variants

  • To set a maximum number of pots per player.
  • To set a maximum number of passes and/or boat to solve the 2×2.
  • Solve in a given time with countdown (4-6 seconds).

Note: all variants are combinable.
