The Immediate Rebound Drill is a high-intensity rebounding exercise focused on anticipation, timing, and explosiveness. Players must react instantly to a shot or pass that triggers a live rebounding situation, forcing them to fight for position and secure the ball under pressure. It emphasizes boxing out, reaction time, and aggressive pursuit of the ball, simulating real game rebounding chaos.

Initial layout and description of the Immediate Rebound Drill

The defender is placed inside the ‘Smiley’ (semi-circle of no-load), looking to the bottom line.

The attacker will be placed in any location that is outside the restricted area.

The coach with the ball will be placed in the Free Kick. Will bounce the ball three times and will be boats clearly differentiated.E

When you make the first pot, the defender will have to locate the attacker.

When the second boat, the defender will have to go to the attacker.

When you make the last boat, the defender will have to close down the rebound. Thereupon, the coach will throw to the basket (with your hand non-dominant to avoid marking basket), and the players will contest the bounce.
If you have the field as a whole, will play to the other ring. If you only have half court, play until the mid-field.

Variants

  • You can do only two pot:
    • The first boat to the defender, turn, locate and go to the attacker.
    • The second boat for the defender to close the rebound and fight for the rebound.
  • Can be done with just a pot:
    • The defender will have to be rotated, locate and go to the attacker, close the rebound.
  • There may be more than 3 boats and the trainer can move with the ball to an attacker and a defender are attentive and work placement with respect to the ring to the couple that they have to the sight of the ball.
    • If the defender is not between basket and attacker without the ball, the attacker can cut and receive a pass on the way to the ring.
