The 4-Corner Layup Drill is a high-repetition finishing drill in which players start from each corner of the half court and rotate after driving to the basket.
It improves layup technique, footwork, and timing, while keeping players active in a structured rotation.

Number of players

- From 4 players forward.
- Ideal with 6 forward for a higher rate.
Recommended time

- Recommended time: 4-6 minutes.
- 2-3 minutes on each side.
Equipment and facilities

- Minimum 1 ball to 4 players.
- With more players, 2-3 balls at a minimum.
- A half Basketball court.
Initial layout and description
Placed 2 players minimum in each corner of the half court. Players are placed in one of the two corners and bottom line with the ball.
The wheel of entries will end on the opposite side.
Player 1 with the ball gives a pass to the next corner (in the sense of the wheel) to the time that you move.
Player 2 that has received the pass returns the pass to player 1. This gives a pass to player 3, and then go to the row of corner where he was player 2.
Player 2 receives the pass from Player 3 and gives a pass to Player 4.
Afterwards, he joined the row in which he was Player 3.
Player 3 gives a pass to Player 4 for cut-and receive a pass back finishing with an entry to the basket.
Player 4 gives a pass to Player 3 who’s just at the entrance to the basket. Player 4 gets rebound and goes to the row with the ball and player 3 is going to be the last row.
From there, the cycle is repeated.
Variants
- The coach is placed at the free throw line and mark it with the fingers of the hand how they have to finish the players:
- index finger=loss of step,
- index finger and the ring= the two supports ‘traditional’,
- fingers and toes are forming a zero-thumb= Step Zero.
- The players that give the pass to the player who is going to make the entry are those which point out many supports to make the entry to the basket.
- Upside down, players point after giving the pass to the last row, how many supports are going to make.
