The 2-on-1 + 1 – Temporary Advantage with Recovery simulates a transition situation where the offensive team momentarily holds a 2-on-1 advantage, but a second defender is recovering quickly. This unstable numerical advantage forces offensive players to make fast, intelligent decisions under pressure while teaching defenders to communicate, delay, and recover. It’s a perfect drill for training real-time decision-making, timing, and reactive spacing in transition.
Objectives

- Speed up the reading of the last meters.
- Work gestural speed.
- Fine-tune calculation of trajectory in defense of line pass.
- Enhance quick reaction in the time of the pass.
- Promote recovery defensive.
- Reinforce the concept of the last defender (with feints defensive).

Initial layout and description
Placed 2 attackers with a ball along the perimeter of the circle in the center, on-line media pitch. Among them, the central circle. An advocate is placed along the perimeter of the circle in the center, between the attackers and the basket that he defends.A second defender is placed in the header (or free kick), forming a tandem with its companion (which is closer to the center circle)attackers begin passing the ball, without making feints and being able to choose where to pass the ball (chopped, waist, chest, or above the head). The defender awaits and decides when to try to steal the ball. How much the defender step inside the circle, the attackers must attack taking advantage of the numerical advantage. Meanwhile, the defender will have to go to set foot on the central line and recuperate. The last defender you have several options:
- Take a risk and attempt to steal.
- Hold out until you get your partner by performing feints defensive.
If the defender recovers, you will have the prize of go almost only made the basket to the attacks (with his partner will accompany you). In that case, the 2 players who in the beginning were attackers, have come down to defend.
Note: Even, you can work the changes of pairs on feints defensive.
Variants
- To set a maximum number of pots per player.
- To set a maximum number of passes and/or boat to solve the 2×2.
- Solve in a given time with countdown (4-6 seconds).
- Modify the distances of reference:
- Distance initial between the two attackers.
- Location of the last defender.
- Mark must be to tread the first defender to recover (this is to ensure that robe with intention).
Note: all variants are combinable.
