The 1-on-1 – Elbow Drill focuses on attacking and defending from one of the most strategic spots on the floor. Players take turns playing live from the elbow, emphasizing triple threat execution, jab steps, first-step explosiveness, and midrange finishing. This drill is perfect for developing scoring moves, spacing awareness, and defensive footwork in tight areas.

  • 1 ball of Basketball for a couple (in case of material is limited, it is enough to 3-4 balls)
  • Depending on the number of players available, you can do the exercise in 1 half court, 2 half courts or a half court with a continuation of the 1×1 if the defender recovers towards the other half (field as a whole).
  • 2 cones.

Initial layout and description

We divided the group in two rows. On the first of each row comes from the union of the lateral line of the restricted area, with bottom-line.
When the Coach (C) gives a jackpot, players run to the cone that you have in front of you. What crimped from the outside in. The first out of the loop receives and ends. The player does not receive defends.

Note: in case of availability of court as a whole, it can lengthen the 1×1 doing for the Defender to recover the ball (before, during, or after the shooting) play 1×1 toward the other basket.

Variants

  • It is requested that the players go to the cone further away to cross (foot work)
  • It rewards the defense giving the ball to the player who later comes out of the ruffle to the cone.
  • You can modify the location of the cones (extension of free kick, 45°, header).
  • You can make it a competition between teams.
  • You can give the pass in one direction to give time and extra space for the defender could recover.
