exercise, exercise, basketball, 1x1, 1c1

The Cage Warm-Up Drill is a high-energy activation game where players work in tight spaces with continuous contact, movement, and decision-making. Often used to simulate physical intensity and spatial awareness, this drill sets the tone for practices that demand focus, agility, and toughness. It’s a great way to engage players both mentally and physically from the first minute.

Cage Warm-Up Drill, proposed by Samuel Acosta, is an Exercise ideal for heating since it involves all the players in motion.

    • You can also play without balls
    • or with a ball by partner (one of the two people with the ball).
  • Bright space, half court or field whole (it is always better to have a court whole basketball since you will have more space and the possibility of incorporating the variation of pull).

Initial layout and description

Are dimensioned spaces of play for each pair (using 4 cones or patches of ground, for example). It consists in making a “box” of cones. 2 players inside the box. 1 ball each. The goal is to touch with hand the part of the body of the couple who name the name of the coach (shoulder, back)Another way to play is by stepping on the feet of the opponent.Note: you are advised not to name the knees since it may happen that the players hit the heads.
If the game is played on a Basketball court (half or whole), you can put the option that the first person to touch two times the designated party to go to throw away and replace.

Variants

  • Use the dominant hand.
  • Use the hand non-dominant.
  • Each player with 2 balls.
  • Incorporate the shot to the basket when the coach says ‘get Shot!’.
  • At the turn of throw, switch partners, and space.

Note: all variants are combinable.
