The 1-on-1 Slalom Drill has players zigzag between cones in a slalom pattern before engaging in live 1-on-1. This trains ball control, quick direction changes, and acceleration, simulating defender navigation and offensive reaction under dynamic conditions (this drill is included in the book 500 EXERCISES FOR BASKETBALL FROM a TO Z: 500 EXERCISES TO IMPROVE YOUR WORKOUTS Leave Cikic – Volume 1).
Objectives

- Improve speed boat.
- Improve change hand in counter-attack and completions.
- Introduce concept of theft/help balance defensive. (‘I was there’ Sito Alonso).
- Trained to observe the arrival of defender and decide how to finish.
Recommended age

- From 8 years onwards (Minibasket: categories, benjamin and fry).
Number of players

- From 2 players on.
- Going out in pairs. In case of being odd, they’re turning the couples.
Recommended time

- Recommended time: 7-8 minutes.
- Put some variant past the equator temporary exercise.
Equipment and facilities

- 3-4 basketballs (better if it is a ball for every two players).
- Pitch whole of Basketball.
- Patches of ground to divide the streets (can be cones, since, a priori, should not be dangerous).
Initial layout and description of the 1-on-1 – Slalom Drill
We divided the group in two ranks facing each other in a bottom line. Divide by 3 streets (one central and two side) by placing the 2 patches of soil (can be cones) on every street interior, separating the side streets of central.
The first players of each row are passing the ball. When the Coach (C) performs a particular signal (auditory or better visual), then the first player who has the ball goes occupying the street next, the defending sprint to recover. To pass to get to the triple of the half court, we solve the 1×1.After finishing, players are once again on the outside of the bands and the next couple start the exercise again to play another 1×1.
This exercise has several progressions. To go making it a habit to players to the dynamics, we will go according to the following progression:
- In the beginning of the year, players can go where they want.
- The attacker has to go for his band closer, and the defender down central street.
- Attacker and defender are each one by their side street closest to you.
- An attacker and a defender crossing the start and then will each one by the side street further away from where you started the exercise. Progress through the street until you pass the second patch of ground and finish.
- Attacker and defender are each one by their side street closest to, and after the first patch of soil, change of band. Defender put his hand in the race with the intention of stealing, and if you can get to stop the attacker (real situation of the party).
- Attacker and defender intersect twice. Before you pass the first patch of ground, and after you pass it.

Variants
- In the start, the attacker chooses to why street to progress.
- In the output, the attacker must:
- go out with a control led (tapping the ball to one side).
- go out with a certain change of hand.
- The defender will have to go into the street opposite.
- The defender will have to go down that street.
- The defender has to deny center.
- The defender can tackle after spending the first patch of ground.
- The attacker has to make a certain change of hand when crossing with the defender.
- 1×0 – Relays with changes of hand.
Note: All variants are combinable.
