The Competitive Shooting Line Drill

The Competitive Shooting Line Drill is a high-tempo variation of the classic shooting line drill. Players are aligned in an arrow-shaped formation, rotating through roles as passer, shooter, and rebounder.
This version adds a scoring system or time challenge, pushing players to focus under pressure, communicate efficiently, and maintain pace.
It’s ideal for warm-up with intensity and purpose.
The coach is positioned in a bottom-line to be able to have a perspective of the whole field, and check the score of baskets.

Objectives

  • Automate shooting mechanics.
  • Perform volume shooting.

Recommended age

  • From 8 years onwards (Minibasket: categories, benjamin and fry).

Number of players

  • From 6 players on.
    • You can have a team with a player (in this case, it is possible to evaluate if you give them some kind of advantage, either with a time bonus or score).

Recommended time

  • Recommended time: rounds of 3 minutes.
    • It is recommended to do 3 rounds.

Equipment and facilities

  • Minimum 4 balls if they are a total of 6 players. If there are more players, we recommend a minimum of 6 balls, keeping 3 balloons minimum for each group.

Initial layout and description

Each group is a row of india and all with ball except the first person in the row.
Description: The coach starts the exercise and the first of the row comes out to the ring to open and receive. The first player with the ball gives the pass to player 1, and opens on the opposite side. Player 1 pulls up and goes to get his own rebound and return to the row. Player 3 gives a pass to player 2, and so on.
Notes:

  • It is very important that both groups ‘sing’ their baskets aloud to keep score.
  • The coach must be placed in one of two baskets to have a global vision and control both groups to ‘sing’ the number of baskets they carry.
  • It is recommended to make several rounds because the dynamic is simple and players ALWAYS like to throw in.

Variants

  • It is thrown from within the zone.
  • Pulled from out of the area.
  • Disposed of only triple.
  • It is thrown from a specific space.
  • Baskets come clean are worth 1 more point.
  • It makes a feint pass, out, or shot before shooting.
  • It makes a change-of-hand, side pot, or step-back before pulling.
  • Is pulled up to dial in the basket.
