The Purgatory Game

game, purgatory, basketball

The Purgatory Game is a fast-paced, competitive drill where players aim to score or survive within a limited time or space. Players who miss or fail to convert may be sent to the “purgatory zone”, where they must complete a task or wait to re-enter. This engaging format reinforces finishing under pressure, competitiveness, and resilience, while adding an element of fun and urgency to the training session.

Each player rolls a single free-kick each in their turn. Released to the basket with ease and concentration. With this form of the game, yes it works on the free throws (including their routines pre-launch).

Initial layout and description of the Game of Purgatory

A row of india, from the Free Kick, with the player facing the basket. The first player to throw will go to two different sites depending on the outcome of its launch:

  • The Sky: If you check, you’ll have earned the sky and will go out of purgatory. you can stay to cheer on their classmates, going to drink water or go to stretch.
  • Direct Purgatory: If you fail the shot, perform some physical burden light (remember that it is a return to the calm), as it can be a round trip to the bottom line or a number of burpees. After the completion of the physical load is assigned, it will stay in purgatory, on the side of the free throw where strip.

So, knowing that players who fail their free kick will be in purgatory, and who will perform the physical burden light each time a companion to fail, before the start of the game we will be able to set the order of the players. To do this, we have various options:

  • The coach decides a specific order on the basis of:
    • free throws missed/launched during the last few games.
    • free throws failed during the season, being able to choose between an order of archery ascending or descending.
    • the numbers of numbers of players.
    • any other criteria.
  • The players themselves choose in what order be placed. If we take this option it is advisable to give a limited period of time so that, in case of no agreement between one or more players, resolve the coach. In the case of playing with the alternative of Paying saints for sinners, it is more likely that there is a disagreement to see who it is placed before. In case of disagreement, it is recommended to solve with a quick Rock, Paper, Scissors or own coach to resolve.

Variants

  • Paying saints for sinners: in this variant, the players who still have not thrown there will also be the physical burden light in case that the player that lance misses his free throw.
    • Every man for himself who can: variant extra Paying saints for sinners in that after the physical loading slight rearranging os shifts depending on the order of arrival of the players who have yet to launch its free-kick.
  • Time variant: the players have a certain time to make your free kick and/or have a countdown to escape purgatory.
  • The 9 circles of hell: The coach tell you how many rounds attempt to have the players. This will help to define better the total time of the game.
  • Lucifer, the fallen angel: variant surprise. If one or several players who have already basked (and they are saved in the paradise) make fun of a classmate who has failed a free kick will be immediately sent to Purgatory. This variant should remain hidden, and only the coach will know if you are active (or not) from the start of the game.
