The 3-on-2 + 1 Drill from Center Circle is a transition exercise that begins with three offensive players attacking two defenders, with a third defender trailing from the center circle.
This setup simulates fast-break situations followed by defensive recovery, forcing quick reads, smart spacing, and efficient decision-making.
It’s ideal for training transition offense, communication under pressure, and rotational defense.

- 1 ball
- A pitch whole of Basketball.
Initial layout and description
Placed 1 defender in each circle of the pitch (center circle, and on two free throws).
The 3 attackers are in the center circle.
The exercise starts with the 3 attackers running around the central circle. At a given time, the coach gives you a pass to one of the 3 attackers and he decides to did what basket attack.
The ombudsman further away you will have to recover as soon as possible, for their companions are the shortest possible time in outnumbered.
NOTE: this exercise also works regulations.
If the coach has a foot in each half court, the attackers will be able to choose where to go.
If the coach has two feet on the same half court, the player who receives the ball will have to avoid doing field behind.
Variants
- Give a certain type of pass.
- Finish with a given number of passes.
- Bring the ball to a particular location before the end.
- The player that receives the pass from the coach must be fixed from where the pass to the coach to avoid the violation of the ball returned to the track to back (refer to Regulation FIBA).
- The coach will be able to indicate in which half court is located in according to what basket has targeted the feet.
