In the 1-on-1 – Quadrant Close‑Out Drill, players take turns defending an attacker who starts in a quadrant before shooting or driving. Defenders must close out, contain, and recover posture. It develops individual defensive technique, close‑out discipline, and offensive timing.
This drill is a proposal of Gabo Loaiza Perez (here his Twitter account and here is the link to the original tweet).
🏀‼️[CLOSE-OUT DRILLS]
Job 1 vs 1 from uncertainty
-If you receive player of the corner, he can only throw or attack center
-If you get player of 45 ° can only penetrate

Objectives

- Setting it to ‘Close out’ on the player, location and possible actions.
- Optimize attention and speed of reaction.
- Habituate to the defender to identify if what movement you are performing an attacker who has just received a ball (penetration, output type, the direction of the exit, shooting to the basket).
- Work to increase the frequency of support defensive and lowering the center of gravity according to approach to safety distance to the Player with the Ball (JCB).

- Still work in quadrant court, not forgetting to change side
Equipment and facilities

- 1 ball available for group of 4.
- A half-basketball court (or court whole if you have more players).
- Each group of 4 on a quadrant of court.
Initial arrangement and description 1-on-1 – Quadrant Close‑Out Drill
Players are placed in groups of 4.Each group of 4 will have a quadrant of the court.
There are two attacking players in the corner and the wing (45°) of the quadrant. The defending player stands at the Low Post. The fourth player, you have the ball and give a pass to one of the attackers without a ball ready to receive.
The defender will have to react and go to defend the player with the ball (JCB):
- If you receive a player of the corner, he can only throw or attack center.
- If you receive player of 45 ° can only penetrate.
Once finished the round, the defender occupies the position of attacker, attacker ended is placed as a pin and the pin becomes the new defender.

Proposal of progression
In addition, taking advantage of the structure of the exercise, you could also expand the number of players joining the players of both quadrants. In this way we would have 6 active players and a seventh that he could be a player or a coach.
4 attackers open, 2 defenders and a pin.
Would work in:
- Aid and rotations defensive (for defenders).
- Passes of investment, feints pass/shot and skip-pass (for the attackers).
The pin, located in the bottom-line would give a visual stimulus (raising his arms) so that the attackers tirasen to the basket or penetrasen.
Finally, both the exercise and original to this progression, I propose the following variants.

Variants
- Player corner can penetrate through bottom-line.
- Player of 45 ° can pull.
- Determine the number of boats to penetrate.
- Possibility of giving a just pass out after penetration frustrated.
- The player that receives the pass of the pin, you will need to make a change of hand before pulling.
- The player that receives the pass after penetration frustrated, you need to make a change of hand before you pull or penetrate.
- Finish up for the defender to recover the ball or basket.
- If the player corner strip to the basket, the other players can load the rebound attack.
- In case of playing the extended version, vary the position of the two defending players initials:
- Both defenders in posts below.
- Both defenders in tandem.
- Mode of half court, if not it makes the shot you can continue playing 3×3. The attackers who were not involved in the pass assistance can load the rebound attack.
- Of the two attackers:
- The capture will be attacking next to the last two players who touched the ball before the launch.
- Which does not capture the rebound will be the defender.
- Note: all variants are combinable.
