The 1-on-1 – Finishing Against Help Defense Drill simulates real-game situations where the offensive player must beat their primary defender and then finish through or around a rotating help defender. This drill sharpens decision-making, body control, and finishing under pressure, while also training defenders to rotate and contest effectively. It’s ideal for developing game-realistic scoring skills in the paint.
The original exercise is Matt Hackenberg (aka CoachHackGO on Twitter) and is called ‘1v1 – Weak Hand for contested finishing’.
Before you think of just dial, the first thing is to think not fit points. The dynamic is simple, first advocates for the right to attack. In case you get to defend with success, you will have the possibility to mark. In case you do not successfully defend there will be no possibility of being able to attack.
