The Continuous 2-on-2 Drill is a high-intensity small-sided exercise designed to develop reaction speed, defensive rotations, and offensive spacing.
After each possession, players rotate quickly or the ball is reset immediately to keep the action flowing.
This drill builds communication, game awareness, and decision-making in confined spaces.
Objectives

- Trained to play equalities numerical having made the balance defensive the whole of the defensive team, or a part of the same.
- Having continuity in the practice of 2×2.

Initial layout and description
In the case of 6 players, 3 teams of 2 players. In the case of 5 players, 2 teams of 2 players and 1 team 1 player (there will be a pattern of rotation). In the case of 7 players, 3 teams of 2 players and 1 player in the half court (there will be a pattern of rotation). In the case of 8 players, 3 teams of 2 players and 1 player on each side of the half court (there will be a pattern of rotation).
A team starts the attack to another computer that is waiting in the half court. Once the problem is solved (the attackers score or the defenders recover), the team with possession of the ball goes to the other half pitch for another 5×5 against the team that is waiting in the half court.
Note: To point out that in the 2×2 continuous is usually to ‘reward’ the attackers with another possession if marked. You can force the attackers out of the background and out of the half court, in this way we give them the defenders other way to retrieve the ballQuestionable because it does not have defended successfully the first time and in case of recovery can create conflict for 2 reasons:
- if they return to play 2×2 in that half court you can become a vicious circle stopping/eternizando the waiting time for the other players.
- if you recover and go on to the other half court creates a conflict to be a violation of article 30 ‘Ball returned to back track’.
Rotations of the 2×2 continuous in the case of 5, 7, or 8 players.
2×2 continuous with 7 players

2×2 continuous with 8 players

The rotations should be clear before the start of the financial year for which the players are doing with this dynamic rotations that is a little unusual.
Note: players must be accustomed to the dynamics of rotations per guidelines. If you are not accustomed it would be very advisable to introduce them gradually in the workouts as soon as the occasion arises (an absence without warning, an injury, or any other setback to the coaches we are more than used to).
- With 5 players, the player will spend the other half pitch will be:
- of the attackers (team that lost the ball attacking) you can choose several patterns:
- the last attacker who touched the ball before the defenders the restore,
- the attacker closer or away from half court, or
- the attacker who name the name of the coach.
- the defenders (team failed to defend), we can choose several guidelines:
- the defender closest to the attacker that you marked,
- the defender closer or away from half court, or
- the advocate to name the coach.
- With 7 players, there will be a player ‘waiting’ in the half court, he will join the team that is left as a defender in the half court (see the team that did not resolve successfully the situation of the game). If there are 8 players, there will be a player waiting on each side of the line, half court to enter.
- If the defenders recover, the player who hoped to enter:
- the last attacker who touched the ball,
- or by the attacker who name the name of the coach.
- If the attackers score, the player who hoped to enter:
- The defender closest to the attacker who scored,
- or by the advocate to name the coach.
- If the defenders recover, the player who hoped to enter:
In a mid-court changes the player light green and the other half court to change the player to a dark green. In this way we have our 2×2 8 players without rotations too complex.
Can we make 2×2 continuous with more than 8 players?
At this point it is recommended to play 2×2 in each half, managing rotations or computers that have 3 players. From time to time, rotate teams so everyone plays against everyone.
In case you want to keep the dynamic of the exercise, it is recommended to play a 3×3 continuous.
Variants
- You can determine a maximum number of bounces to perform on the track back, track forward or in total.
- You can determine a maximum number of passes to perform on the track back, track forward or in total.
- You can determine a maximum number of boats per player and/or team.
- You can determine a maximum number of boats per player and/or team.
- You can set a certain length of time to resolve in court in whole or half court.
- You can determine a specific location to finish.
- You can reward the execution of a gesture technical to perform.
- You can reward the execution of a tactical concept to perform.
- In the case of 7 or 8 players can do that players who enter make it from the bottom line.
- 1×1 continuous, 3×3 continuous, 4×4 continuous and 5×5 continuous.
Note: all variants are combinable.
