Rubik Game

game, games, basketball

The Rubik Game is a creative coordination drill that transforms the concept of a Rubik’s Cube into a floor-based challenge with colored cones. Players must follow a predefined color sequence while dribbling or performing actions at each point. This game boosts cognitive control, motor planning, ball handling, and spatial orientation, all within a fun, fast-paced structure.

You can play in two modes: co-op and competitive.
Ideal for warming cognitive or for a return to calm. You can also play it at home by replacing the cones of colours for a few chips coloured cardboard or of paper.

Initial layout and description of the Rubik Game

To play we need to have a minimum of 16 cones, 4 of each color, placed on the ground forming a grid (4×4).There are two ways to play:

  • Co-op mode: a challenge group. The players will come out one-by-one and must go by placing the cones getting to align them by color. In the end, it records the time and repeats the pattern in order to improve it in the following rounds.

Note: vital to keep a record of patterns to be able to be varied. For the following modes, having direct interaction between the players that touches exchange cones, we will make that the priority you always have the who place the cone before. Of course, always respecting the positions are interchangeable. Although it is obvious, we will also say explicitly that the cones are always to be positioned standing up.

  • Competitive mode: form two teams and are assigned to one or two colors to each of them. The team that before you get to have your two colors aligned, you win (it may be that both computers to ‘share’ a color).

Note: it is essential to place the cones so that the two teams have their cones in the same position output to ensure the equality of opportunities from the start.

  • Super mode-rubik’s cube: achievable only in case of having many cones. It is a combination of the previous two modes. Each team has its own grid consisting of 16 cones and both teams have the same pattern to solve. The team who successfully align their 4 colors will win the round. If we want to put it more difficult still, we will pass a final pattern, or tell you in what order will have to be the colors ordered.

Variants

  • Dribble with the hand non-dominant.
  • Dribble with changes hands continued (in front, beneath the legs, behind the back, etc…).
  • Bounce back.
  • Dribble with pot of protection, side pot, etc…
  • If on the premises where it is played there is some corner or blind spot can be exploited for the players that are expected not to see the placement of the cones and have to decide alone.
  • Expand the grid to 5×5 or even 6×6.
