Climbing Spider Game

game, games, basketball

The Climbing Spider Game is a tag-based drill where the “spider” must catch others by moving in specific ways—usually simulating climbing or crawling. It enhances mobility, creativity in movement, and full-body coordination, and is ideal for dynamic warm-ups or breaking the routine in youth sessions.
The Climbing Spider Game is a modification of the original Game of the Spider (also known as Bulldog or Wall). In this mode, players have the role of an advocate, they can move throughout the field, (except the interior of the inner parts of the triple).

Initial layout and description of the Climbing Spider Game

There are a few players (1 to 2 players) that is the link (it is pochan, or the bear). Have ball will be placed within the area of triple. When players link (located in the middle of the court and without the ball) to yell, ‘oh, Spider!’, the players with the ball must leave.

Once given the signal, the players with the ball must get to the other triple (safe zone of ‘Home’ and throw to the basket).
The goal is to reach triple-triple keeping the ball, without it we lose control of the ball. In case of losing control of the ball or lose possession, the player who had the ball will be added to the side of the spiders climbing. Then go to pose your ball in the back or band where it is stored in the balls. It is played over several rounds until only left one player or a few players.
We remember the ways that a player has with the ball to be removed and added to the side of the spiders climbing.

  • The ball goes off-line by line-of-band or background (regardless of who was the last person to touch it).
  • Do steps or doubles repeatedly (at an older age or level, lower or no tolerance).
  • Lose possession of the ball (a spider climbing robs us of the ball or there is a struggle).
  • In the likely case that a player takes over the account, it will start a countdown. In case you do not pass the half court before the end of the countdown, will join the group of players that is the link.
  • The spiders will be able to continue stealing from the balls to the players with the ball are inside the triple long as it does not follow within the triple.

Variants

  • Dribble with the hand non-dominant.
  • Bounce to a specific height (at the height of the knee, hip, shoulder, at the height of the head, above the head, etc…).
  • Player with the role of Spider climbing that robe will swap the role with the player stole the ball.
