What is abdominal trauma?

Abdominal trauma is a type of injury that can be caused by various factors, such as traffic accidents, falls, hits, among others. This injury can affect different organs of the abdomen, including the liver, spleen, kidneys, intestines, and blood vessels. In this article, we will analyze the causes, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and return to action in patients with abdominal trauma.

Definition

Abdominal trauma is defined as any injury that affects the intra-abdominal organs, including the blood vessels, the liver, the spleen, the kidneys and the intestines. This injury can be caused by various factors, such as traffic accidents, falls, bruises and stab wounds, or fire.

Causes

The most common causes include road traffic accidents, falls, and stab wounds, or fire. In addition, the sports and recreational activities can also cause abdominal trauma in some cases. Injuries can vary in severity from lacerations and contusions mild to serious injuries that can be life-threatening.

Diagnosis

The diagnosis begins with a physical evaluation of the patient. During this evaluation, the doctor can look for signs of bleeding, such as abdominal pain, abdominal distention, tachycardia, and hypotension. In addition, the doctor may also perform tests of diagnostic imaging, such as x-rays, ct scans, and ultrasound, to assess the extent of the injuries.

Treatment

The treatment of abdominal trauma depends on the seriousness of the injury. In mild cases, treatment may include bed rest, analgesics, and observation to make sure there are no complications. In more severe cases, treatment may require surgery to repair or remove damaged organs or to stop the internal bleeding.

Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation after an abdominal injury can vary according to the severity of the injury and the treatment received. In some cases, patients may require physical therapy to help regain strength and mobility in the abdomen. In addition, patients may require occupational therapy to help them perform activities of daily living, such as dressing and feeding, while they recover from their injury.

Back action

The return to action after an abdominal injury can be a slow and gradual process. In general, patients should wait until your doctor gives the okay to return to your normal activities. In addition, patients may require modifications in their daily activities to avoid aggravating your injury. It is important to follow the recommendations of your doctor and therapist to make sure that your recovery is safe and effective.
