The Hunter Tag Game is a high-energy warm-up or agility game where one or more players (the hunters) chase others (the runners) within a defined space. This game promotes quick direction changes, peripheral awareness, and explosiveness, making it an excellent tool for activating players before training. It also encourages competitive spirit, teamwork, and spatial control in a playful environment.
The game came released in a tweet posted by Gaizka Hernandez ( @gaizkaeibar ) in a [THREAD] titled ‘Summer Drill Book 2022’ , published on twitter on 26 jun. 2022) and is implemented by the French team of the BYers the Fos Provence Basketball of the mediterranean city of Fos sur Mer (located at less than 50 km away from Marseille).

Recommended age

Number of players
- From 4 players forward. A team is hunted down and the other team takes the role of pursuer.
Recommended time
- Total duration of the game 7-10 min and rounds typically last less than 3 minutes.
Equipment and facilities
- 1 ball of Basketball.
- A diaphanous space, a court in whole or half a pitch.
Initial layout and description
Before you start, the Coach will have to say how many rounds will be played. For short, it is recommended to a single round per team.
The game begins in the following way. Both teams are positioned on the pitch. At the start signal, it activates the timer to the few teams to start the chase.
The players of the team tracker only can pass the ball because the Boat is prohibited. To get to the players of the team pursued will have to touch them with the ball (not shipping), or touch with the hand (in both cases being in possession of the ball). The players of the team pursued can’t leave it to the limits of the court.
Once a player’s team pursued is hunted, you will have to sit on the floor to evidence that has been caught and to avoid possible confusion.
When the last player on the team pursued is hunted, it stops the timer and the teams swap roles. You start a new round. After that another round, the team with least time it took to hunt down the other team wins.
Note: the players of The team pursued can intercept a pass (it’s an unspoken rule that like to see how to deduce the rules of the game the players more intelligent – this can be made explicit past a few rounds).
Variants
- When a ball leaves the pitch we can opt for any of the following options:
- it gives the round for the lost. In the case of playing several rounds, you can win in several ways:
- the team that loses the ball loses the round.
- in the case of playing several rounds, the team that catches the other team in the shortest time of all the rounds wins.
- a player who was hunted you can return to the game
- the player is a hunter was the last to touch the ball before it left the field of play, it is deleted.
- it gives the round for the lost. In the case of playing several rounds, you can win in several ways:
- Players can take a boat every time they receive a pass.
- You can restrict the playing area of a stadium full half court when there are less players.
